Measure Your Glass
Measure the visible glass — width and height in millimetres, at three points each. Send sizes and photos with your quote request, or ask about a site measure in Melbourne and Sydney.
We Prepare Your Film
Your smart film is precision-cut to size, fitted with busbar, matched to the right transformer, and powered up for testing before it leaves our facility.
Connect & Switch
Apply the film, connect the transformer, and switch between clear and private mode by remote. Hardwired connections are completed by a licensed electrician.

Smart Film, Switchable Glass or Privacy Glass — What’s the Difference?
Smart film (PDLC film) is a switchable layer retrofitted to your existing glass, while switchable glass has the same PDLC technology laminated inside brand-new glass panels. Both switch between clear and frosted; smart film delivers the effect at a significantly lower cost because your glazing stays in place. Static privacy glass — etched, frosted or tinted film — is cheaper again, but it is permanently obscured and can never be clear.

What is smart film?
Smart film — also called PDLC film, switchable film or privacy glass film — is a thin laminate applied to existing glass. When powered, its liquid-crystal layer aligns and the glass turns clear. Without power it scatters light, turning the glass frosted for instant privacy — no curtains or blinds required.
What happens when it is switched off?
The film defaults to its frosted, private state. That means a power outage gives you privacy, not exposure — and the film only draws power while it’s clear (around 5W per square metre).
How much does smart film cost in Australia?
Sketch Australia supplies smart PDLC film at $450 per square metre including GST — cut to size, with transformer, busbar and remote controller included. Installation in Melbourne and Sydney is quoted separately based on glass size, access, wiring and site conditions.
Does the price include GST?
Yes. The supply-only price of $450 per m² includes GST — no surprises at checkout.
What is the difference between smart film and switchable glass?

Is installation available outside Melbourne and Sydney?
Currently our install network covers Melbourne and Sydney. Everywhere else we deliver supply-only Australia-wide, cut to size and ready for a local glazier, tinter or film professional to apply. Our installer network is growing — ask us about your area.
Can it be cut to custom sizes?
Yes. Every order is custom cut to your measurements, and non-standard shapes or oversized panels can be custom made — send us your specs for a quote.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
Yes — bathrooms and ensuites are one of the most popular applications. Wet areas need correct edge sealing and the transformer located outside wet zones, so we recommend supply-and-install (or a chat with our team) for shower screens.
Does it need an electrician?
The film runs on low voltage via the included transformer. Where the transformer plugs into an existing power point, no electrician is generally needed. Any hardwired 240V connection, new power point or wall switch must be completed by a licensed electrician.
What warranty do you provide?
2-year warranty on the smart PDLC film and 1-year warranty on the transformer, applicable under correct installation, use and electrical connection conditions.
Can it be controlled by remote?
Yes — a remote controller is included with every order. Wall switches, smartphone app control and integration with building automation are also available as options.
Is it suitable for commercial projects?
Absolutely. Offices, meeting rooms, clinics, shopfronts and commercial partitions are core applications. For multi-panel fitouts we can supply project pricing, specification documents and coordinated installation in Melbourne and Sydney.
