What are Sketch Natural flexible stones?

Sketch Natural Flexible Stones are ultra-thin sheets of 100% real stone veneer, backed with either fiberglass/ fabric that allows them to be flexible, lightweight, and easy to install. Made from natural stone surfaces such as slate, marble, and sandstone, each sheet retains the authentic look and texture of stone while being suitable for curved and flat surfaces alike.

What surfaces can the stone veneers to be installed on?

Sketch stone veneers can be installed on a wide range of surfaces including cement board, drywall, plywood, MDF, tile, brick, and painted walls. The surface should be clean, dry, and free of dust or grease to ensure proper adhesion. For best results, we recommend using the appropriate adhesive based on the installation surface and environment.

Can the stone veneer sheets be installed over existing surfaces?

Yes. Sketch stone veneer sheets can be installed over existing tiles, brickwork, concrete blocks, laminate, painted pasteboard, kitchen spashbacks, glass, furniture. Please contact Sketch Australia for more information for guidance for these types of installations.

How flexible are the stone veneer sheets?

Our stone veneer sheets are highly flexible and can be curved around cylindrical surfaces with a minimum radius of approximately 25 cm. This makes them ideal for both flat and slightly curved applications, such as feature walls, columns, and cabinetry. However, flexibility may vary slightly depending on the backing type and product range.

How heavy are the stone veneer sheets?

Our large panels (2700mm x 1200mm) weigh around 10kg, while the smaller panels (1220mm x 610mm) weigh approximately 3–5kg, making them lightweight and easy to handle.

What are the application areas for these stones?

Sketch natural stone veneers can be used for interior and exterior walls, bathrooms, kitchens, splashbacks, feature walls, ceilings, furniture, fireplaces, and even curved surfaces. They're ideal for residential, commercial, and hospitality projects.

Can the stone veneer sheets be used in wet areas?

Absolutely. The sheets are suitable for wet areas including shower recesses. We recommend using a sealant over the surface for maximum protection of the surface.

The front is made of 100% natural stone, while the backing consists of fiberglass/ polyester resin. The translucent product only consists of a clear acrylic backing allowing light to be illuminated.

What are the temperature limits for these stones?

Sketch stone veneers are highly fire-resistant and suitable for use in areas with temperatures up to 120°C, in line with recommended standards.

The thickness ranges from 1mm - 2 mm.

How long does Delivery take?

Lead times vary for each product, please check the description of the product you are interested in to see the delivery timeframe. Delivery will take on average 15 business days, but will not exceed 30 business days unless otherwise communicated to you. If you have not received your order within 30 business days, please urgently contact us. We hold some stock on hand. Some panels are ordered in with the manufacturer as per your individual order, it’s worth the wait.

Butt-join for a seamless look, or leave a gap and grout like a conventional tile — we recommend grouted gaps. Seal for wet areas.

What are flexible tiles?

Ultra-thin, lightweight tiles with a real textured surface on a flexible backing — thin enough to bend around curves and light enough to install where conventional tiles can't go.

Are they natural stone?

No — our flexible tiles are an advanced modified-clay material with a genuine sculpted texture, in travertine-look and feature finishes. If you want real quarried stone, that's our Flexible Stone veneer range — happy to help you compare the two.

Can I install them over my existing tiles?

Yes — as long as the existing surface is sound, clean and flat, flexible tiles go straight over the top with standard tile adhesive. No demolition.

Do I butt-join them or leave grout gaps?

Either works. Butt-join tight for a seamless look, or leave a gap and grout like a conventional tile. We recommend grouted gaps — it looks sharp and allows for expansion.

Can I use them in a shower or bathroom?

Yes — sealed flexible tiles are suited to wet areas including showers, ensuites and bathroom walls.

Can I use them outside?

Yes — flexible tiles suit both internal and external applications, including street-facing facades and exterior feature walls. For outdoor installs we recommend grouted joints to allow for expansion.

Can I use them around a fireplace?

Fireplace surrounds are one of the most popular applications. Tell us about your fireplace and clearances and we'll confirm suitability for your specific setup.

Do they have a fire rating for commercial projects?

Fire classification testing for the flexible tile range is currently under way with a NATA-accredited laboratory. If you're specifying for a Class 2–9 building, contact us for the current certification status.

How do I cut them?

With ordinary hand tools — score and cut. No wet saw, no angle grinder, no dust.
